Pays d'Hérault - Vin de Pays - Languedoc (Minervois)

Tasted yesterday at lunch, it was a very enjoyable surprise. 100% Cinsault from a parcel of 1 hectare of 50 years old vines planted on sandstones and marls. Vinified in a Burgundian style and aged in stainless still tanks, no oak, this wine blends the savoir-faire of two renowned and talented winemakers from Burgundy, with the richness and uniqueness of the terroir of Minervois. The result is a refined Languedoc wine with a very Burgundian profile, taste and texture. I love it.

Domaine Anne Gros et Jean-Paul Tollot "La Cinso" IGP Côtes du Brian 2015
Pays d'Hérault - Vin de Pays - Languedoc (Minervois)
Average Retail price around HKD165 (or about 18 Euros)

Attractive youthful red ruby colour, clean, clear, light to medium intensity, with some sediments (surprising for 2015? maybe not as I do not think that this wine underwent any filtration).

The nose is enticing, fresh, clean, a touch mineral, boasting fresh yet ripe red berries and fruits aromas (Raspberry and Strawberry definitely come to mind, yet, I also had an impression of Maceration Carbonique nuances like "Fraise Tagada" (strawberry candy), it was amusing). Very joyful nose actually, with ripe yet light and fresh notes.

The palate is soft, gentle, ample, ripe yet fresh, fruity, juicy, really well balanced (lively with a good texture and structure), focused and expanding very nicely and harmoniously from the beginning to the fairly long-lasting finish.

The notion of playfulness and freshness was very vivid in my mind of both the nose and the palate while tasting it.

Very inviting and approachable I must say. Straight and focused, yet far from being serious and austere or severe. On the contrary, this beautifully crafted wine is juicy and really easy-going, with a refreshing attitude.

The type of wine that definitely commands another glass right after the first one, as it so enjoyable, agreeable and easy to drink. Well done. Love it.

A no brainer for those who never tasted a 100% Cinsault (more especially old vines) and even more so at this price around HKD 165 or 18 Euros.
