LeDomduVin Logo

The new and now official "LeDomduVin" logo

Having recently decided to retire (for good) from the restaurant business, due to physical issues not allowing me to stand for long hours at the time anymore, (as it is necessary when working in restaurants), I decided to create my own little Sommelier consulting company.

Logically, I registered it in Hong Kong (because this where I live now) and called it "LeDomduVin", which is also my name and alias in the Wine world (since August 1997) and the name of this wine blog (since August 2008).

The company mainly focuses on providing "Sommelier-for-hire" services for private and public dinners and events, as well as wine education and training. Wine list creation and other Sommelier services can also be added on demand.

Once it was established and registered, I had to create my own logo to promote my company and have more public recognition. I wanted to create something nice and simple, easily recognizable and somewhat slightly artistic to capture my passion for wine as well as drawing and writing.

I drew this current logo first.  It was my first idea.  The first thing that came to my mind. And it was the most representative of both my job and myself.

And, although I liked it right away, I had a slight doubt, a moment of hesitation, and thus attempted many things, other drawings and designs, after drawing this first one.

However, unsatisfied by the other attempts, I finally decided to come back to the original one, as I thought it was the most representative of who I'm and what I do and more especially what LeDomduVin is all about: Wine!

The most beautiful and refined things in life are usually the ones that are simple, straightforward, clean, harmonious, homogenous and soft looking. Usually the less convoluted and complicated, the more refined. "Épuré" as we say in French.

And it was that simple, but I still had to think about it for a minute.

To create it, I just took the first 3 letters of my first name and put them vertically to transform them into a glass of wine (do you see it?). Most wine glasses are stemware, meaning that they are goblets composed of three parts: the bowl, the stem, and the foot.
  • D for the bowl of the wine glass
  • O for the top of the stem (where the bowl and the stem meet)
  • M for the stem and the foot of the wine glass

Clever, isn't it?

Strangely enough, the idea came to me fairly naturally, because when I sign a document, I usually sign "DoM", which is much shorter and less complicated than my official signature.

And, when I sign "DoM", it already looks like a wine glass laying on its side. Therefore, I just had to put it back up. Et voilà! Nice and easy.

So here it is again, my logo!
(Really proud of it... 😄)

Santé! Cheers!

LeDomduVin a.k.a. Dominique Noël

PS: Recently, with this company, I started working on a few projects with "Signature French Wines" and the wine portfolio from "Domaine des Grands Vins de France" in Hong Kong and Sanya (Hainan Island), mainly focusing on providing my services at luxury events (not necessarily only wine events) and niche places like private restaurants and clubs, and even art galleries.

  2. The LeDomduVin logo is a clever and artistic representation of Dominique Noël's passion for wine and his expertise as a sommelier. Its simplicity and elegance capture the essence of wine, and it serves as a great visual representation for his consulting company.
